Leopold’s (Savannah, GA)

I went to Leopold’s during a little break in meetings during my workday – thinking it’d be a quick trip. Ahh haha – I was wrong. There was a line about a block long, but I wasn’t going to let that stop me! I persevered, chatted with a few people behind me (one woman was from Utah!! And one guy was on an RV trip but he had A WASHER & DRYER in his RV… I didn’t know that was a thing.), and 50 whole minutes later – walked out with my ice cream.

  • Ordered: Vegan Vanilla + Vegan Mint Chocolate Chip
  • Flavor: 4/5
    • I was about 95% sure I received the vegan coconut instead of the vanilla – but now I’m questioning that since this (& most) vegan ice cream is made with coconut milk. Maybe the vanilla flavor wasn’t enough to mask the coconut? So I guess that’s a good indication that the vanilla wasn’t vanilla-y enough…? (Or it really was the coconut. Unclear.) Anyway. Either way the texture though was great – so thick & creamy!! And I appreciated that such a “traditional” ice cream shop even had vegan options.
      • Note: I’m not vegan but am vegan-curious… And dairy doesn’t sit well with me which I’m usually ok with, but I didn’t entirely want a stomach ache today. Not that I have to justify ordering vegan ice cream, but wanted to clarify as to not mislead 🙂
  • Ambiance: 4/5
    • Even though waiting in line for a full 50 minutes in the heat & humidity was less than ideal – they had a worker bringing out ice water for everyone which was very kind & very refreshing! And the inside of the shop looked stereotypically “old town”-y & cute. It fit their aesthetic.
  • As good as normal?: Of course not.
    • Though I appreciate both the vegan options + the rotating monthly flavors!!
  • Would go again?: YES
  • Overall: 4/5
